Did you know that Cornwall is often described as the ‘garden capital of the world’?  Cornwall’s magnificent gardens total over 60 gardens and because of the county’s unique and mild coastal climate boast a wealth of rare and beautiful plants and trees – some of the most exciting to be found in the British Isles!

What better way to relieve the stresses and strains of modern life than by taking a short break here in Cornwall and visiting our splendid gardens?

If you would like to throw history and horticulture into the mix then there are many captivating landscapes of the grand estates to visit, many within reach of Rock and its environs, such as:

Lanhydrock House and Garden at Bodmin, one of the most beautiful of National Trust properties, a short journey away;

The Lost Gardens of Heligan at St Austell, with 200 acres to explore, is open all year round;

Trerice at Kestle Mill, Newquay, is easily reached and well worth a visit, with its secluded valley garden and grand Elizabethan manor house.

To celebrate the start of Spring we are offering a four-night break for the price of three nights at the majority of our houses, for short breaks taken before the end of April (excluding the Easter fortnight). Simply quote ‘Cornish Gardens’ at the time of booking to benefit from this offer.

Well Christmas is just about upon us again!

Are you ready? Have you done all your shopping? Decorated your home? Sent all your cards? Wrapped all your presents?

It is a really stressful time of year, isn’t it?

Over the years there has been a growing trend to spend Christmas, or just Christmas Day in a slapup hotel or restaurant in order to escape all the stress of coping with the buildup to Christmas and Christmas itself.

Even better still, a lot of people like to get completely away from it all by having  a few days away. They exchange all the stressful side of Christmas for a complete change of scene and just the sheer bliss of being away from it all.

If you have just spent the afternoon jostling your way along the High Street and felt your Christmas cheer ebbing away as the crowds got ever denser, maybe it is something you would like to consider.

Why not take a look at our main site? If you’re quick, we might still have some gorgeous self catering Cornwall vacancies!

Anyway. . .

From all of us here at dbholidays.co.uk, have a very Happy Christmas, and a very Prosperous New Year!!

Happy Christmas!

August Bank Holiday, probably the busiest time in Cornwall’s tourist calendar!

It is traditionally a time when holidaymakers descend upon Cornwall in droves, in search of sun, sea, sand, and a little relaxation. This year, since many families have foregone their overseas holidays, Cornwall could be in for even more visitors than usual.

The weather looks reasonably promising (if we can trust the met). Saturday looks set to be a dry day with some cloud and the sun breaking through from time to time and Monday looks suspiciously like a typical sunny summer’s day. Fingers crossed!

If you are in Cornwall over the bank holiday, there are at least three major events you might like to take part in.

On the 31st August (Bank Holiday Monday), Newlyn celebrates the Cornish fishing Industry with the ‘Newlyn Fish Festival’.

On Sauturday and Sunday, The ‘Falmouth Sound Festival’ takes place. It has all the hall marks of being a great event.

From the 29th August to the 5th of September, will see the 22nd ‘Bude Jazz Festival’ taking place. They have a very full programme, and jazz enthusiasts will definitely not want to miss this fabulous week.

No doubt there will be many other smaller, local festivies taking place – if you can drag yourself away from the beach of course!

If you haven’t found accommodation for the weekend yet, visit our main self catering Cornwall site. We might still have some vacancies left for late availability.

Well, Whitsun is here, the weather is gorgeous, and once again holidaymakers are flocking to Cornwall. Summer has finally arrived and the bank holiday really has all the hallmarks of a great weekend.

Whitsun of course is the second weekend in the year when Cornwall sees a huge influx of holidaymakers and the A30 can get packed solid, so it is a good idea to plan your travelling times carefully.

Just a quick update!

The weather today Friday is looking rather gloomy as forecast, but the outlook for the rest of the weekend looks very promising.

So, let’s hope that all those enjoying a well-earned  self catering Cornwall break have a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable bank holiday weekend.

Oh! and one more thing! On the news last night one news item repeated the information that the Met Office are predicting a warm dry summer for this year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed hey!

The May Bank Holiday is upon us already and another influx of visitors is expected into the region.

The weather forecasts for the long weekend although not brilliant, are looking pretty fair, and visitors to the county should be able to get out and about and onto the beaches.

Since Easter, all the attractions are open, so for those who like a more active break, there will be plenty to do and see, and of course, if there are some showers visitors to the Eden project will be oblivious to them inside the great domes. Many lucky people will enjoy the exotic climate in the tropical dome without even having to leave the country.

At the end of May, we have another long weekend to look forward to (Whitsun), fingers crossed for some great weather then, and after Easter, it is the first holiday of the year when Cornwall tends to get packed with holidaymakers, so be sure to book your self catering cornwall holiday early to avoid disappointment.

The weakness of the Pound against the Euro and other currencies, means that many people (both Brits and visitors from abroad) are looking at the old traditional tourist areas in the UK this year for their holidays. Cornwall has always been high on the list for those seeking sun, sea, sand and wide open spaces in Britain.

If you are planning on visiting Cornwall in 2009, you may have thought about where you would like to stay. Whilst hotels offer one option, self catering Cornwall accommodation provides a more personal and unique experience for the traveller.

Your choice of accommodation in Cornwall can turn a good holiday into one that will furnish you and your family with many cherished memories.

Holiday cottages provide you with a home away from home. Compared to sitting in a bland, impersonal hotel room, holiday cottages and other self catering venues give you total privacy whilst making you feel at home.

Renting a house, cottage, or flat gives you your own personal space to come back to where you can relax in comfort at the end of a day of activities in Cornwall. You have the freedom to come and go as you please, cook your own meals when you like, or eat out if you prefer.

When choosing your self catering accommodation, the criteria you will need to consider are; the location, the number of rooms/beds required, how many bathrooms are available? Is the kitchen adequate? Is there a wet room? What linen is provided? Will you have access to television, DVD, CD, BBQ and any other items you might require? Also are any more luxurious facilities provided? Pool? Gymnasium?

It is also helpful if you can look at photographs which will give you a more accurate idea of what you might be renting, and comments made by previous visitors will also help you form your opinion.

The traditional way to find self catering accommodation in Cornwall, was to search through publications like ‘The Lady’ which had an excellent section of classified and display advertisements, and of course, there were always plenty of advertisements to scan through in the ‘Sunday Papers’ and many other publications. These are still pretty good places to start your search and you might want to consider them first.

Nowdays, the internet makes it a breeze to find the accommodation you are looking for. All you need to do is fire up Google (or your favourite search engine) and type in the criteria you are looking for. You will be astounded at the amount of choice and variety you will be presented with. There is something to suit every taste and every pocket in Cornwall.

North Cornwall is definitely one of the most popular locations in Cornwall, boasting Perranporth, Padstow, Newquay, Rock, Polzeath, Trebetherick and many other popular resorts. If you are considering staying in this area you might like to visit http://www.dbholidays.co.uk.

So, why would you want to take your holiday in Cornwall this year? Well, Cornwall is a highly popular visitor destination, thanks to its stunning landscapes, and spectacular beaches.
